6 Week Garment Making Classes
Ready to move beyond basic sewing and start creating clothes that actually fit your style — and your body? Our 6-week Garment Making Course at Edinburgh Sewcial Club is designed for confident beginners and intermediate sewists who want to level up their skills and make professionally finished garments from scratch.
This course is perfect if you’re already comfortable using a sewing machine and have completed simple projects like bags, cushions or beginner accessories. If you’re brand new to sewing, we recommend starting with one of our beginner or intermediate workshops first to build confidence before stepping into garment construction.
Over six weeks, you’ll learn the foundations of modern dressmaking, including:
-
Taking measurements and adapting patterns for the perfect fit
-
Pattern cutting and understanding garment construction
-
Fabric properties, grainlines and working with different textiles
-
Seams, darts, pleats, sleeves and pockets (depending on your chosen design)
-
Inserting concealed zips
-
Professional hemming and finishing techniques
Classes are intentionally small, giving you plenty of one-to-one guidance and support throughout the course. Some light homework may be suggested between sessions to help keep your project moving.
By the end of the course, you’ll leave with a custom-made garment — whether that’s a dress, skirt, trousers or jacket — and the confidence to independently follow commercial sewing patterns and continue building a handmade wardrobe that feels uniquely yours.
