Beginner Sewing Machine Workshop

Build confidence with a sewing machine and learn essential sewing skills in this friendly, hands-on beginner sewing workshop. Perfect for complete beginners, this practical sewing course introduces you to the fundamentals of machine sewing in a relaxed and supportive environment. Guided step-by-step, you’ll learn how to confidently use a domestic sewing machine while creating your own handmade envelope cushion cover to take home.

During the workshop you will learn:

• How to thread a sewing machine

• Winding and inserting a bobbin

• Basic sewing machine troubleshooting

• Confident machine control and sewing techniques

• Understanding fabric types and fabric qualities

• Exploring different sewing machine stitches and their uses

Using the skills you’ve learned throughout the class, you’ll complete a stylish envelope-back cushion cover — the perfect beginner sewing project to build confidence and develop practical sewing techniques.

After completing this beginner sewing class, you’ll feel ready to progress onto dressmaking classes, garment making workshops and more advanced sewing courses.

Sewing machines are provided, although you’re very welcome to bring your own machine and learn how to use it confidently. Class sizes are kept small to allow plenty of individual tutor support and one-to-one guidance, ensuring everyone can learn at their own pace.
