Guided by an experienced, patient and highly skilled dressmaking tutor, you’ll spend dedicated studio time learning how to create beautifully handmade clothing in a relaxed, supportive sewing environment.
This garment making course is perfect for anyone with intermediate sewing experience who feels confident using a sewing machine and has previously completed beginner sewing projects such as cushion covers, tote bags or introductory sewing classes.
Throughout the course you will learn essential dressmaking and garment construction skills including:
-
Taking body measurements and adjusting sewing patterns
-
Pattern cutting and understanding garment sizing
-
Fabric properties, grainlines and fabric selection
-
Professional sewing techniques and garment construction
-
Creating pleats, darts, sleeves and pockets (depending on your chosen pattern)
-
Inserting concealed zips
-
Hemming and professional garment finishing techniques
With small class sizes (maximum six students), everyone receives plenty of individual tutor support, guidance and one-to-one assistance throughout the course. Some light sewing homework may be suggested between sessions to help you progress your skills and complete your garment.
By the end of the course, you’ll have created your own made-to-measure handmade garment — whether that’s a dress, skirt, trousers, jacket or top — and gained the confidence to follow commercial sewing patterns and continue making your own clothes at home.
£165 per person — create a garment of your choice while building lifelong sewing and dressmaking skills.
