Our Story

Founded in 2014, The Edinburgh Sewcial Club was created with a simple idea: to bring people together through the joy of making. What began as a small sewing studio teaching dressmaking and textile crafts has grown into one of Edinburgh's most welcoming creative communities, inspiring hundreds of people to discover the confidence and satisfaction that comes from making something with their own hands.

In 2017, following the success of our classes, we moved into a larger studio to welcome even more makers. While we've grown, one thing has never changed – our commitment to small class sizes. With no more than six students in our sewing and dressmaking workshops, every participant receives expert one-to-one guidance in a relaxed, supportive environment where learning feels enjoyable and accessible.

At The Edinburgh Sewcial Club, we believe sewing is about far more than learning technical skills. It's an opportunity to slow down, practise mindful creativity and take time away from the pressures of everyday life. Sewing encourages patience, focus and problem-solving, offering a rewarding creative outlet that supports mental wellbeing while building practical, lifelong skills.

Our workshops welcome complete beginners through to experienced makers, with classes taught at a gentle pace by experienced tutors who are passionate about helping every student succeed. Whether you're creating your first cushion, sewing your own clothes, exploring embroidery, discovering the traditions of Japanese Sashiko, learning patchwork or trying your hand at lino printing, you'll leave with new skills, renewed confidence and a sense of achievement.

We're also passionate about sustainability and believe sewing is one of the most empowering skills you can learn. From visible mending and garment alterations to upcycling treasured textiles and creating beautiful handmade pieces designed to last, our workshops encourage a more thoughtful approach to fashion and creativity while reducing waste.
Above all, The Edinburgh Sewcial Club is a place to connect. Our studio is filled with conversation, encouragement, laughter and shared inspiration, where strangers quickly become friends and creativity brings people together. Whether you come to learn a new skill, rediscover your creativity or simply spend time with like-minded people, you'll always find a warm welcome, expert tuition and a community that celebrates every stitch.
